Labour councillor Elaine Pantling has backed proposals for two new council-run children's homes to provide more local care for young people with complex needs.

The plans would create seven places and increase the total capacity of local children's homes to 47, reducing reliance on costly placements outside Leicester.
One home would be created by converting a council-owned property in Evington. The other would involve buying land in Enderby, with a development agreement for a new building.
The project is costed at £4.16 million, comprising £1.3 million for the conversion and £2.86 million for the new development. Proposed funding combines the council's capital budget with a £1.9 million Department for Education grant already secured.
Pantling, assistant city mayor for children and young people, said local provision would help children remain connected to friends, family and their communities. The city mayor is due to decide on the proposals on 16 October.
