Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has announced £54m in winter support for Ukraine during his first visit to the country in that role, to help repair energy infrastructure and provide heating, water and emergency assistance as winter approaches.

Meeting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on 8 October, Miliband reaffirmed the UK’s support against Russia’s invasion.
£20m for energy, £34m for humanitarian needs
The package includes £20m for energy support, covering emergency repairs, generators, solar equipment and technical assistance to help maintain essential supplies.
A further £34m will support humanitarian needs, including heating, water and cash assistance through organisations such as UNICEF, UNHCR and the Red Cross.
Miliband: ‘You cannot wait us out’
The visit coincided with new UK sanctions targeting the oil revenues, financial networks and supply chains supporting Russia’s war.
Miliband told Vladimir Putin, “You cannot wait us out”, linking the immediate winter assistance with the UK’s commitment to sustaining support for Ukraine.
