Alex Davies-Jones has defended the need for a dedicated Welsh voice in the UK Cabinet after Mark Drakeford suggested considering the abolition of the Wales Office.

The Labour MP for Pontypridd said on Saturday that Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland were distinct nations and required their own representation at the heart of the UK government.
Davies-Jones said she respected the former Welsh first minister but disagreed with his argument. She also expressed pride that Welsh Secretary Stephen Kinnock was at the Cabinet table.
Drakeford had argued that Westminster's arrangements should change after more than a quarter of a century of devolution. He suggested the UK had moved beyond the need for separate ministers responsible for each of the three nations.
Davies-Jones's response places direct Cabinet representation at the centre of the debate. Her intervention is a defence of the existing role, with no decision announced to abolish the Wales Office.
