Daniel Cowan has opened a £671,000 inclusive playground at East Beach in Shoeburyness ahead of the October half-term.

The coastal-themed site includes wheelchair-accessible equipment, climbing and balancing activities, and interactive features using sound, touch and colour.
A large submarine structure reflects Shoeburyness's maritime heritage. Trees, planting, grass mounds, stepping logs and shaded seating have also been added.
The design was informed by local families and the Southend SEND Independent Forum. The council says the equipment is suitable for a range of ages and includes provision for neurodiverse children and those with physical disabilities.
The project forms part of Southend's Civic Pride Action Plan. It is separate from a £2 million parks programme covering play-area improvements at four other locations in the city.
Cowan said the investment was intended to create a place where children could play together regardless of ability. Southend remains under no overall control and is governed by a joint administration led by Labour.
