Claire Ward welcomes Nottingham's first six electric double-deckers

The buses have arrived ahead of a public launch and their planned introduction on the Lilac 27 route later this year.

Claire Ward has welcomed the arrival of Nottingham City Transport’s first six electric double-decker buses, announced by the operator on 9 October.

The East Midlands Mayor said the vehicles would support cleaner public transport. The six Wrightbus vehicles are intended for the Lilac 27 service to Carlton later this year.

Passengers will first have an opportunity to inspect a bus at a public launch in Sneinton Market Square on 14 October. The event is scheduled to run from 10am to 3pm.

The vehicles include two wheelchair bays, USB charging and air conditioning. Their design also incorporates features intended to improve journeys for passengers with neurodivergent conditions.

The announcement concerns the arrival of the vehicles ahead of passenger service. It does not mean the electric double-deckers are already carrying passengers on the route.

The introduction will extend electric operation to double-deckers as the operator develops its cleaner fleet. Funding previously associated with the programme is not a new allocation announced this week.
