The combined county authority announced the offer on 7 October. Medilink Midlands will deliver the Ascent programme, which runs until March 2027.

Up to 18 businesses, academics and innovation teams will initially receive support, with six progressing to intensive expert help through a Technical Hive.

Those six participants will each have access to specialist support worth up to £1,000. Advice will cover issues such as regulation, intellectual property, manufacturing and working with the NHS.

The universities of Nottingham and Derby, alongside Nottingham Trent University, will contribute to innovation clinics. The programme also includes help preparing to approach investors.

Ward said overcoming practical barriers could help innovators grow and create jobs. The offer is open to eligible organisations in Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
