Claire Ward backs 30 supported homes on former Arnold care-home site

Construction has started on a £6 million development supported by £290,000 from the East Midlands Mayor's Brownfield Housing Fund.

Claire Ward has backed the start of construction on 30 supported homes for young people at a former care-home site in Arnold, Nottinghamshire.

The East Midlands Mayor's Brownfield Housing Fund is contributing £290,000 to the £6 million development on Duoro Drive. Nottingham Community Housing Association is leading the scheme with Gelder Ltd as main contractor.

Plans provide 22 one-bedroom flats and a mix of two and three-bedroom houses, together with a staff office and communal hub. The homes will be offered through social and affordable rent.

The former care home was judged no longer fit for purpose and has been demolished. The replacement homes are intended to help young residents develop independent-living skills in supported accommodation.

Ward said the investment would return neglected land to use and add safe, affordable housing. The project also has support through Homes England's strategic partnership with the housing association and from Nottinghamshire and Gedling councils.

Completion is expected in autumn 2027. The environmental design is intended to lower energy use, but the announcement does not provide a quantified bill-saving guarantee.

The Arnold project is one of four association schemes receiving nearly £1.94 million from the mayoral fund. Together those schemes are expected to deliver 159 homes across the East Midlands.
