The Scottish Labour MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife lodged the questions on 9 October, covering inspections, complaints, serious incidents and enforcement.

She asked whether risk-based inspection frequency provides sufficient assurance of safety, and what proportion of inspections over the past five years were unannounced.

Baker also sought information about detecting childminders caring for more children than their registration permits, and action where providers operate outside their registration conditions.

Further questions seek complaint numbers and subsequent regulatory action, reviews over the past five years, and whether serious reported incidents prompt changes to safeguards.

The questions request evidence about how safeguards work in practice. They do not establish that a particular provider or the regulator has failed.

Government responses were not displayed when the questions were checked.
