The Broxtowe MP asked ministers what action they were taking to improve access to work experience, supported internships and pre-apprenticeship opportunities for young people with dyslexia.

Education minister Josh MacAlister said the Government wanted young people with special educational needs and disabilities, including dyslexia, to have access to good post-16 education and routes into employment.

Supported internships currently provide structured work-based study programmes for 16 to 24-year-olds with an EHCP, combining substantial workplace experience with support including job coaching.

MacAlister confirmed that during 2026-27 the Government is testing the supported-internship model for young people without an EHCP, backed by funding of up to £9 million.

The Department for Education is also working with the Careers & Enterprise Company and Careers Hubs to expand inclusive workplace experiences in mainstream schools and specialist settings.

Campbell has repeatedly raised dyslexia and neurodiversity in Parliament, including access to diagnosis, careers advice and support for young people entering employment.
