Burnham vows to stamp out antisemitism three years after October 7 attacks

The Prime Minister paid tribute to those killed by Hamas, pledged continued protection for Jewish communities and reaffirmed Britain's support for a two-state solution.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said the Government will do everything it can to stamp out antisemitism as Britain marks three years since the October 7 attacks on Israel.

Burnham paid tribute to those killed by Hamas and said the impact of the attacks continued to be felt by Jewish communities around the world.

The Prime Minister warned that Britain had witnessed a disturbing rise in antisemitic behaviour in the years since, including attacks against Jewish people and institutions.

Protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings

He said the Government would continue funding protection for synagogues, schools and community buildings, and would take action against antisemitism wherever it appeared.

Burnham said abuse and violence against Jewish people would not be tolerated on Britain’s streets, online, in schools, universities or neighbourhoods. An attack on Jewish people in Britain, he said, was an attack on the country as a whole, and antisemitism had no place here.

Commitment to two states

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to a two-state solution, with Israelis and Palestinians living alongside one another in peace and security.
