Greater Manchester Mayor Bev Craig has welcomed confirmation that the 2031 Netball World Cup will be held at Co-op Live in Manchester, bringing 16 national teams to the city after England secured the right to stage the tournament.

The tournament will be the eighteenth edition of the sport’s world championship and the fourth hosted in England, after Eastbourne in 1963, Birmingham in 1995 and Liverpool in 2019.
World Netball selected England Netball’s bid, which was backed by UK Sport and Manchester City Council. Co-op Live staged the Netball Super League Grand Final earlier this year.
A legacy for Greater Manchester
Craig said the event would showcase 16 competing countries to a global audience and could leave a participation legacy across Greater Manchester.
Manchester City Council culture executive Shazia Butt said the award strengthened the city’s position as a destination for women’s sport. The city is also due to host events including the Tour de France Femmes in 2027.
World Netball plans to hold its World Cup every two years after 2031. The next tournament is scheduled for Sydney in 2027.
