Former Commons Speaker John Bercow has voiced support for the creation of new media platforms aimed at amplifying Labour’s message ahead of the next election.
Speaking to Labour Home, Mr Bercow said he favoured communicating Labour’s position “as often and as strongly as possible”, adding that additional outlets could help the party’s representatives “argue their case to the country”.
He said the Labour government was working to address the cost of living crisis, offering “hope and opportunity” to the public. However, he warned that even strong policies could fail to gain traction without effective communication.
“There is a massive challenge in politics today,” he said. “If we don’t get the message across in a compelling way, we won’t achieve the results we want.”
Mr Bercow criticised what he described as the state of the country inherited from the previous Conservative government, calling it “the worst set of Conservatives in my lifetime”. He said Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his colleagues were “working day and night” to reverse what he called “a wholly unacceptable mess” and deliver improved public services.
Mr Bercow added that he believed they “will succeed”.
