Voting has officially opened in the race to elect the next Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, with MPs Lucy Powell and Bridget Phillipson going head-to-head for one of the most influential positions in the party.
Ballots opened today, Wednesday 8 October, and members now have just over two weeks to cast their votes before the deadline at noon on Thursday 23 October.
Eligible Labour members — those who joined the party before 8 September — will receive their ballots by email from [email protected] <[email protected]> no later than Monday 13 October. Members are urged to check their inboxes carefully and to contact Labour Membership at [email protected] <[email protected]> or call 0345 092 22 99 (option 4) if they do not receive their voting link or need their ballot reissued to a different email address.
The Deputy Leadership contest is seen as a defining moment for Labour as the party continues to consolidate its position ahead of the next general election. Both Powell, MP for Manchester Central, and Phillipson, MP for Houghton and Sunderland South and current Education Secretary, have run energetic campaigns focused on party unity, local empowerment, and delivering Labour’s vision in government.
The outcome of this contest will help shape the tone and direction of Labour’s leadership team as it prepares for power.
