Labour councillor Anne Quilter has welcomed plans for a new coastal-themed play area at Harbour View in Bransty, Whitehaven.

Installation is scheduled to begin in mid-October and is expected to take about six weeks. Cumberland Council is funding the scheme.
The design draws on Whitehaven's maritime heritage and coastal setting, with equipment intended for children aged up to six. Dynamic and sensory features will support imaginative, inclusive and social play.
Residents were consulted in January, and their feedback helped shape the equipment and overall design. The play area will sit alongside the community garden maintained by Bransty Community Interest Company.
Quilter, the council's executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said the project would provide a welcoming space for young children and families. The scheme is part of the council's wider programme to improve play facilities across Cumberland.
