Sheffield Central Labour MP Abtisam Mohamed has joined a cross-party group urging Chancellor John Healey to change the taxation of private jets, so that private aviation makes a larger tax contribution.

She is among the signatories to an open letter calling for an end to the tax exemption on fuel used by private jets.
The letter also seeks higher Air Passenger Duty for private-jet passengers, arguing that their tax contribution should better reflect the cost of their flights.
Favourable treatment questioned
Its supporters say the present arrangements allow private aviation to receive favourable treatment compared with ordinary commercial passengers.
The campaign puts the potential revenue from its proposals at £2.7bn. That is the campaigners’ estimate, not an official Treasury forecast or an agreed government measure.
The signatories argue that additional revenue could help people facing energy costs. The appeal adds Mohamed’s support to pressure for a different approach to private aviation taxation.
