Labour MP Abena Oppong-Asare has launched her annual Christmas card competition for 2026, inviting primary pupils across Erith and Thamesmead to create a festive design that will become her official card.

This year's theme is "Christmas in Our Community". Children of all ages at primary schools in the constituency can draw or paint a design celebrating the people, places and traditions that bring their community together.
The winning artwork will be used as Ms Oppong-Asare's official Christmas card and sent to more than 1,000 local residents, businesses and organisations, as well as the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the House of Commons and His Majesty the King.
Oppong-Asare: 'celebrate the people and places that make our community special'
Last year's winner was Tanvi, then a Year 1 pupil at Belvedere Infant School. Her design was inspired by Lesnes Abbey Woods Park, where she enjoys playing and making new friends.
Abena Oppong-Asare MP said:
"Every year, I'm impressed by the creativity of children across Erith and Thamesmead. This Christmas, I'd love to see them celebrate the people and places that make our community special.
"Whether it's a favourite park, a local celebration or an act of kindness, I can't wait to see what inspires them."
Entries close 6 November
Entries close on Friday 6 November 2026. Winners will be announced in an email to participating schools shortly after the deadline.
Full entry requirements and submission instructions are on her website and have been sent to local primary schools. Ms Oppong-Asare said she is launching the competition now to give pupils as much time as possible to create their designs.
