£1 Billion Local Power Plan to Transform Community-Owned Clean Energy

£1 Billion Local Power Plan to Transform Community-Owned Clean Energy

Labour has announced the largest ever investment in community-owned clean energy in British history, with up to £1 billion backing the new Local Power Plan.

The initiative will support locally owned clean energy projects such as solar panels on libraries, leisure centres and other community buildings — allowing communities to generate and benefit directly from their own energy supply.

The announcement comes alongside confirmation of the largest ever UK procurement of solar projects, as well as record onshore wind and tidal energy developments. Combined with previously announced offshore wind projects, the government says 201 clean energy projects have now been delivered — enough to power the equivalent of 16 million homes.

Labour argues the UK is on track to meet its 2030 clean energy targets, delivering lower bills, greater energy security and new jobs while positioning Britain as a clean energy superpower.
