Labour MP Vicky Foxcroft has highlighted the millions of pounds delivered to community organisations in Lewisham North through the National Lottery as the Government seeks views on the future of funding for good causes.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has launched a nationwide call for evidence asking individuals, charities and other organisations how National Lottery good-cause funding should evolve and where the money can have the greatest impact.
Foxcroft said that since April 2025, National Lottery distributors have awarded 83 grants worth more than £5.9 million to organisations across her Lewisham North constituency.
Writing on X, the Labour MP said:
“Since April 2025, National Lottery distributors have awarded 83 grants worth over £5.9m to organisations across Lewisham North.
“DCMS is seeking views on the future of The National Lottery via its call for evidence – respond by 23 Sept.”
The Government says the National Lottery has generated more than £53 billion for good causes across the UK since it was established in 1994. The money has supported areas ranging from grassroots and elite sport to cultural institutions and local community projects.
The new consultation is examining how funding can better reflect modern priorities, reach communities where support is needed most and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy for organisations seeking funding.
DCMS is inviting responses from both individuals and organisations across the UK, giving charities, community groups and members of the public an opportunity to influence the future direction of National Lottery good-cause spending.
The call for evidence was launched on 1 July and is open until 23 September 2026.
For constituencies such as Lewisham North, the consultation comes against the backdrop of significant Lottery investment in local organisations, with Foxcroft highlighting the £5.9 million awarded locally as evidence of the role the funding can play in supporting communities.
The Government is now encouraging people and organisations to submit their views on what National Lottery funding should prioritise in the years ahead.
