Slough MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has offered his thoughts and prayers to families affected by catastrophic flash flooding across Nepal and Tibet, after confirmation that at least one Slough resident is among the British nationals reported missing in the region.
The disaster, caused by torrential monsoon rains that triggered landslides and flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border, has claimed hundreds of lives and left many more missing across impacted mountain communities.
Sharing his condolences and support for emergency personnel, Dhesi said:
“Devastating news about the hundreds who’ve sadly perished in #Nepal and #Tibet, and hundreds still missing, including at least one Slough resident among the missing Brits.
“My thoughts and prayers with all affected and those involved in rescue efforts.”
British relief operations underway
The confirmation comes as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office coordinates the response on the ground, deploying a Rapid Deployment Team to assist British nationals and support local emergency authorities in Kathmandu and outlying districts. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said families of missing British nationals would receive all possible support.
Foreign Office teams are working with local search-and-rescue units, British consular officials and international relief agencies to support stranded travellers, locate missing people, and assist UK-based families awaiting news, as reported alongside the government’s emergency aid package.

Dhesi reaffirmed that his constituency office is standing by to support any Slough families seeking assistance or consular liaison regarding relatives in the affected regions.
