Morgan, the MP for Portsmouth South, said he was proud to see a local business recognised by the national awards and praised the wider contribution made by Britain's kebab and hospitality sector.

He said:

"I would like to congratulate Portsmouth's own Agora Restaurant for being chosen as a Semi-Finalist in the category of Best Value Restaurant for the 15th British Kebab Awards."

Morgan added that the awards help recognise an industry which has "contributed enormously to Britain" but has too often gone "unseen, unheard and underappreciated".

Agora looking to build on previous success

Agora Restaurant already has a strong record at the British Kebab Awards. The official winners list shows that it won the Best Value Restaurant award at the 14th British Kebab Awards in 2026, meaning it is now seeking to progress again in the same category at the 15th edition.

The restaurant's latest semi-final position places it among businesses competing for a place in the final ahead of next year's ceremony.

Public voting still open

The British Kebab Awards says semi-finalists progress through a points-based system incorporating public votes, endorsements from MPs and councillors, and customer star ratings. A semi-final place does not guarantee progression to the final.

Public voting remains open until 15 October 2026, after which finalists will be confirmed.

15th anniversary awards

The British Kebab Awards are celebrating their 15th anniversary this year, recognising restaurants, takeaways, chefs and suppliers from across the UK.

The main ceremony will take place on Tuesday 23 February 2027 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London, following the semi-finals reception held at Speaker's House earlier this month.

This year's competition covers 22 categories, ranging from regional restaurant and takeaway awards to Best Value Restaurant, Chef of the Year, Customer Satisfaction and specialist categories including Greek, Lebanese and vegan kebab businesses.

Celebrating high street businesses

The awards were established to recognise businesses that form an important part of Britain's hospitality sector and local high streets.

The British Kebab Awards describes local kebab restaurants and takeaways as businesses that contribute to local economies, employment and the cultural life of communities across the country.

For Morgan, Agora's semi-final place is an opportunity to celebrate a successful Portsmouth business while drawing attention to the wider contribution independent restaurants make to local communities and Britain's hospitality economy.
