the Tobacco and Vapes Bill receiving Royal Assent

Good morning, I am writing on behalf of the Responsible Vaping APPG, to which CalComms provides secretarial support.

We have prepared the following statement ahead of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill gaining Royal Assent, which is expected to happen within the next few days. Please feel free to use the following statement in any reporting of the new Act. We will also be posting the statement online on the APPG’s website and social media (X and LinkedIn ) once Royal Assent is given.

For immediate release once the Bill receives Royal Assent

Following the Tobacco and Vapes Bill gaining Royal Assent, Chair of the Responsible Vaping APPG Euan Stainbank MP said:

“The Responsible Vaping APPG welcomes the passing of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill into law, which will lead to the UK’s first smoke-free generation.

“We have been a critical friend of the Bill as it passed through Parliament and welcome the Government’s commitment to a separate consultation on vape flavours and advertising, continued support for vapes as a vital smoking cessation tool for adult smokers, and new funding streams for trading standards.

“Vaping remains the most proven option for smokers looking to successfully quit tobacco for good, and as I said during the debate – “if you do not smoke, do not vape, but if you do smoke, switching to vaping is a far preferable choice for your health”

“The Responsible Vaping APPG has been working with the Government on this Bill, and we look forward to continuing to advocate for evidence-based policy as further, secondary legislation starts to come through.

“All MPs and Peers are invited to join us at our regular quarterly meetings, and we are keen to hear all views”.
