Sheffield Heeley MP Louise Haigh has visited small business owners at the Manor Park Centre to mark the reopening of local shops following a fire that struck the retail precinct.
Among those returning to their premises is local entrepreneur Hasan, owner of Nino Barbers. Having opened his shop just days before the fire, Hasan faced a 15-month wait while major structural repairs and rebuilding work were carried out. The BBC reported the long rebuild after the May 2025 blaze, which police treated as arson; The Star also covered the salon’s return to the parade.
Following her visit, Haigh praised the community support that helped affected traders rebuild:
“It was great to meet Hasan from Nino Barbers today whose business was destroyed in the fire at Manor Park Centre.
“He had only been open for a few days before the fire and has had to wait 15 months to get back into his shop.
“He spoke to me about all the help he’s received from Business Sheffield, Manor and Castle Development Trust and local Councillor Elle Dodd, Manor Castle and Laura Moynahan Councillor for Manor & Castle and of course from the local community and other shop owners.
“It’s wonderful to see the community spirit that has come out from such a devastating event and to see the shops now repaired and reopened.”
Cross-community action drives local recovery
After the blaze, local agencies, community development trusts and elected representatives stepped in to support independent businesses and provide guidance during the rebuild.
Key support networks included:
- Business Sheffield: commercial guidance, insurance support and advice to shop owners during the forced closure.
- Manor and Castle Development Trust: community outreach, local resources and practical assistance for affected workers and residents.
- Local Labour ward representatives: Manor Castle councillors Elle Dodd and Laura Moynahan worked with the local authority to support traders through the 15-month recovery.

Haigh said supporting small independent businesses such as Nino Barbers remains crucial for neighbourhood regeneration, protecting local jobs and fostering pride in place across Sheffield.
