In an exclusive interview with ‘The Politics of Podcast’ made for Ali Milani Live on Youtube , Labour Party MP Nadia Whittome has, for the first time, called for new leadership at the very top of the Labour Party.
Whittome became the second Member of the Parliamentary Labour Party this week to call for the Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step aside, following similar calls by Clive Lewis. Speaking to Ali Milani, Whittome launched into scathing criticisms of the government's recent immigration reforms, the two-child policy cap, and the overall direction of the Labour administration.
Ms Whittome said: “I think there does have to be a new leader.” “Even if Keir Starmer had a radical change of direction, I don’t think people would believe him. And I don’t think people around him would allow that to happen. So I think there has to be a change in leadership, a change in personnel, of the people in number 10, and a completely different direction for the party.”
She went on to say that “...this just is not what people who voted Labour in 2024 expected from a Labour government.”
