One of the best-established hospitality events in the Westminster calendar will mark a major milestone on Tuesday evening, as the 15th British Kebab Awards are celebrated at a special parliamentary reception hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

The reception at Speaker’s House on Tuesday 8 September will bring together parliamentarians, business leaders, restaurateurs and representatives from across Britain’s hospitality industry as the semi-finalists for the 15th British Kebab Awards are unveiled. The awards describe themselves as a fixture of the parliamentary calendar, recognising restaurants, takeaways, chefs and suppliers from across the country.
The evening is being co-sponsored by Labour MP Dawn Butler and Gavin Williamson MP, with a number of senior Labour figures expected to attend and speak.
The event will underline the strong relationship the awards have built with Parliament over more than a decade, providing a platform at Westminster for an industry that employs large numbers of people, supports local high streets and contributes significantly to Britain’s hospitality economy.
British Kebab Awards founder Ibrahim Dogus said ahead of the reception:
“Tomorrow evening, at Speaker’s House, at the heart of our democracy, we will mark a major milestone: the 15th British Kebab Awards.
“We are deeply grateful to Mr Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, for hosting this special parliamentary reception.”
He also thanked Butler, Williamson and the MPs, peers, councillors and business leaders due to attend, saying their presence sent an important message about the value of the industry.
Senior Labour figures supporting the awards
The 15th awards have attracted significant support from Labour parliamentarians.
Among this year’s judging panel are Jonathan Reynolds MP, Dawn Butler MP and Bill Esterson MP, alongside parliamentarians, hospitality figures, broadcasters and business leaders.
Rosena Allin-Khan MP is also among the senior Labour figures involved with this year’s awards and is expected to join Labour colleagues supporting the celebration.
Their involvement reflects the extent to which the British Kebab Awards have grown beyond an industry awards ceremony into an established meeting point between Westminster and one of Britain’s most diverse and entrepreneurial business communities.
Over the years, the awards have attracted support from politicians across the political spectrum, alongside civic leaders and prominent figures from hospitality and business. The awards’ own endorsements include repeated descriptions from parliamentarians of the event as one of the highlights of the parliamentary calendar.
Why the event matters at Westminster
For fifteen years, the British Kebab Awards have sought to give greater recognition to thousands of independent restaurants, takeaways and family businesses that often sit at the heart of their local communities.
That gives the event particular significance in Westminster.
It brings small business owners directly into Parliament, giving MPs an opportunity to hear from employers about the challenges facing hospitality — from energy and food costs to recruitment, taxation and the future of Britain’s high streets.
It also celebrates an industry shaped heavily by successive generations of migrants who have built businesses, employed local people and helped transform Britain’s food culture.
The awards have therefore become as much about enterprise, integration, community and opportunity as they are about food.
The official British Kebab Awards describes the event as a celebration of the economic and cultural contribution made by the industry, bringing together politicians, journalists, hospitality leaders and restaurant workers.
Hundreds of businesses enter the next stage
Tuesday’s Speaker’s House reception will also be an important moment for hundreds of businesses competing in the 15th awards.
The semi-finalists will be announced during the evening, beginning the next stage of a nationwide campaign in which businesses will seek support from customers and their communities.
Those progressing through the competition will ultimately be invited to the main 15th British Kebab Awards ceremony on Tuesday 23 February 2027 at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, where winners from across Britain will be crowned.
Public voting has become an important part of the awards, allowing customers to support businesses they believe deserve national recognition.
Fifteen years of celebrating entrepreneurship
Since their launch, the British Kebab Awards have grown into a national institution within the hospitality sector.
What began as an attempt to give greater recognition to an often-overlooked part of Britain’s restaurant and takeaway industry has developed into an event attracting MPs, ministers, business leaders, national media and hundreds of hospitality operators.
For many participating businesses, particularly independent and family-run restaurants, recognition at the awards can provide valuable national exposure as well as a moment of pride for staff and customers.
The 15th anniversary therefore represents more than another awards cycle.
Tuesday evening’s gathering at Speaker’s House will celebrate fifteen years of entrepreneurship, hard work and community contribution — while once again putting Britain’s independent hospitality businesses firmly at the heart of Westminster.
