Tower Hamlets - Join the battle

I’m the candidate in a council by-election currently going on in Tower Hamlets, and I’d like to invite all the readers of Labour Home to come down to play a part in an important campaign.

Labour Score Impressive Victory In Glenrothes

On a swing much smaller than expected by "experts", Kirkcaldy headteacher Lindsay Roy has been elected as the new MP for Glenrothes.  On a very healthy turnout, Mr Roy held the seat with a majority of nearly 7,000.

Labour win by-election with a 6.6% swing

Great news in Greenwich. Last night in a by-election in the Plumstead ward, Labour retained the seat with 6.6% swing from the Tories.

Losing the Glasgow by-election would be a blow, but big swings to the SNP are not unprecedented, argues YouGov president Peter Kellner in a Fabian online essay.

Glasgow East

So what is the process for selecting Labour's candidate? When will we know who is standing?

David Davis has 25 by-election opponents

Start giggling now. There are 25 independent and wacky candidates who have decided it is a good use of their money to stand against Davis in Haltemprice and Howden.

Boycott Haltemprice and Howden by-election!

This is a stupid by-election stunt.  Terror is an issue for the nation as a whole - especially urban areas - not a single Tory-held parliamentary constituency.   It shows their contempt for representative democracy and the capacity of parliament to make decisions.  The vote goes against them so they squeel and call for a plebiscite.  It is a waste of public money, and we shouldn't give it any significance by contesting it.

Are the Tories really looking forward to Henley?

The Liberals are clearly taking the forthcoming Henley by-election seriously, as evidenced by this YouTube video posted on Saturday. And so, of course, are Labour, I hasten to add.

Tory and Lib Dem by-election hypocrisy...

Most of the below is from my blog, but I thought since Labourhome seems to have been a victom of some Tory trolling on this issue, this might be a helpful antidote...

Riverside (Bermondsey), Southwark By-Election - Tories Down 47%!

The results of the Riverside By-Election are out. Whilst the Lib Dems held the seat. Labour increased its vote and the Tories were hammered.

Polling Day in Bermondsey! Please Help!

Many thanks to everyone who's helped so far but we urgently need lots of extra help to beat the Lib Dems & Tories in Southwark's Riverside Ward by-election. Polling Day is this Thursday (13th Dec)!

Norman Tebbit tells David Cameron to get on his bike

Well almost, what he actually said, according to the FT, was “Labour won, the Liberal Democrats did well, and Mr Lit, the Tory candidate, and former Labour party donor, who stood under the banner of David Cameron’s Conservatives, did extremely badly”.

BY-ELECTION RESULTS - LABOUR WIN BOTH

02.30 UPDATE: BOTH RESULTS NOW IN

Labour win in both Ealing Southall and Sedgefield, Tories finish third in both making it a miserable night for David Cameron.

Haverstock By-Election - RESULT

Lib Dems win Haverstock By-Election by 160 votes.

Ealing Southall, diaries of a Lib Dem: Day 1

I know some of my own party members might not be too enthused about me describing my experiences to the *spits* Labour Party but I'm getting rather fed up of the party divide on the blogosphere about the by election. It seems on the Labour and Tory blogs that the Libs are the root of all by-election evils and visa versa from the Libs so I thought I'd try and break through the gap between us. This was my first by-election and it was an interesting experience for a kid from Suburban Surrey campaigning in a place like Ealing-Southall. Anyway, read on and I'd love to read of your experiences as well if you have any to offer. Plus any friendly advice (and I do mean friendly) is more than welcome.

Blaenau Gwent must fight on

So, two weeks on since we lost the by-election.

But despite the disappointment, Party Members should feel partly satisfied that we fought the election on issues. And even though we were rejected by the electorate we live and learn.

EXCLUSIVE: Leighton Andrews AM on the Blaenau Gwent result

Leighton Andrews is the Labour Welsh Assembly Member for the Rhondda. He is a former head of Public Affairs at the BBC and he acted as Welsh Labour's Director of Communications during the last General Election.

By-Election Results

Here are the results of the by-elections in Bromley & Chiselhurst and Blaenau Gwent.

It's very late and I'm somewhat tired so I shall leave the analysis to the comments section - but I would like to say that we should all be grateful to our candidates for doing a difficult job for us.

A Message from Dennis Skinner MP

"I was in Abertillery last week campaigning for John Hopkins and Owen Smith. It was good to be in Wales supporting two excellent Labour candidates.  The welcome I had was fantastic and the people I spoke to told me they were coming home to Labour this time.
